Somya Satsangi

New Delhi — Painting

My engagement with myth, literature, and imagination has compelled me to transform diverse atmospheres into hybrid visual worlds.

Somya Satsangi's paintings are shaped by the landscapes of her childhood — the Himalayas, Rajasthan and the shifting atmospheres abroad — and by the imaginative worlds of Indian mythology, the Arabian Nights, Latin American magical realism and Murakami. Trained in photography in London and painting in New Delhi, she treats symbols as fluid, belonging to everyone.

Sacred figures share space with whimsical companions: nuns walk beside penguins, radiant presences hover above crowds, skeleton puppets dangle in sacred atmospheres.

“Humor in my work is not frivolous — it is a way of acknowledging fragility, of opening solemnity to play, of reminding us that grace often arrives through laughter.”
